These pictures were all taken in the Southern Arava desert in Israel, the region where I live, and around the nearby city of Eilat. Some of the birds are residents and many are migratory.

With close to 500 species reported in the region, at present this page barely scratches the surface and is therefore a work in progress that I aim to continually add to and improve — both in terms of number of species represented and quality of the images. My hope is that this page will be both a photographic gallery and a resource.

In attempting to tread a line between biological consistency and conciseness, I have divided the species into the following categories (not all as yet represented — as I said, a work in progress).
