Celia’s Hide, Azuz, Western Negev desert: Night

Sitting in a hide overnight, making as little noise and movement as possible, is something of an endurance test. Not much can happen for hours, and then suddenly something appears, and you are witness to an intimate scene with wild animals at a proximity that would be impossible without them being unaware of your presence. It is truly exhilarating. Celia’s Hide in Azuz is well-known as a spot for observing and photographing desert wildlife that come to drink at a small pool. This was my first visit. During the night the pool was visited by jackals, a herd of onagers, a fox and a porcupine.
